Meet the Instructors
Tammy is the owner of Red Brick Road Training. She previously served as Director of Training for Frontier Justice, overseeing the training program for all locations companywide. She has a BA in Public Relations and Marketing with a Specialization in Project Management. Tammy has an extensive background in advocacy and public relations and has
received training from organizations such as The Pew Charitable Trust and The National Parent Teacher Association. She is currently serving as the chair of the Kansas State Rifle Association’s Training Committee Tammy is a USCCA certified instructor and an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, CCW Instructor, and Range Safety Officer. She is a Missouri POST handgun instructor and certified Byrna Launcher Instructor. Tammy has also received her OC Spray Instructor certification from Agile Training and Consulting and is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. She has attended training with several national-level instructors including ECQC from Craig Douglas of ShivWorks, Handgun Accuracy from Tatianna Whitlock, and training Habits of Highly Successful Pistol Fighters with Darryl Bolke. Tammy has also taken several classes from Chuck Haggard of Agile Training and Consulting, including OC Spray/Less Than Lethal Tools for the Non-LE Instructor, Managing Unknown Contacts, Close Quarters Handgun Deployment, Small Pistols, and Low Light Handgun. She has attended the Active Self Protection Conference, The Guardian Conference, and TacCon multiple times.
Chuck has been active in private defensive training throughout his long career in urban law enforcement. After nearly thirty years of steady upward progression through the ranks of the Topeka Police Department, he ventured out on his own to pursue private training on a more regular basis. Chuck maintains his POST certification and stays active in the law enforcement community, but he now devotes even more time to training other police officers, military personnel, security forces, and private citizens on the art and science of personal defense. Chuck is certified as a civilian and law enforcement trainer on various weapon systems, including pistol, shotgun, rifle, carbine, oleoresin capsicum (O.C.), baton, and Taser. He is also skilled and experienced at teaching weapon retention, disarming, and other empty-hand techniques. He enjoys teaching and is proud to be able to contribute to this nation’s widespread community of responsible, law-abiding advocates of self-defense.
Jay Kennedy MD, FAAFP - Blue Plains Consulting
Dr. Kennedy served as a Ranger squad leader in 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment; Special Forces Weapons Sergeant in 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group; and Senior Evasion Instructor for the Survival-Evasion-Resistance-Escape (SERE-C) Course at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. He is a combat veteran of Operation Desert Storm. He entered medical school at the University of Minnesota when he was 35 years old, tempering the exhaustive endeavor with his real-world experience. He actively searched out “low tech” diagnostic skills to treat patients in austere environments during his training. He served in the Indian Health Service and Veterans Health Administration as a Medical Officer as well as private practice before retiring from active medicine.

After graduating from medical school “Dr. Jay” completed his post-graduate medical training at the Rapid City Regional Hospital Family Practice Residency Program. In 2013 he was awarded Fellow status in the American Academy of Family Practice. He is board-certified in Family Medicine.
Dr. Kennedy’s military awards and decorations include the Ranger and Special Forces Tab and Senior Military Parachute Badge. He has the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendations Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, and Overseas Service Ribbon. He earned the German Federal Armed Forces Gold Marksmanship Badge and Parachute Badge, Italian Armed Forces Parachute Badge and the Austrian Military Mountaineer Badge.

He remains active in shooting sports and teaching field skills to diverse skill set groups. During the school year he tutors Native American middle school students for the local public schools.
Yee Lum is a university teacher with over 8 years of experience in the education field and a proud Lawrence resident. She is passionate about providing welcoming, down-to-earth firearms instruction that meets people where they are, especially for folks who may not always see themselves represented in the firearms world. As a certified Kansas Concealed Carry Handgun Instructor and USCCA Certified Firearms Instructor, she offers classes for beginners, women's classes, and concealed carry classes. Her current favorite thing to shoot is a Ruger 22 Charger.
Brian Holmes - Holmes Defensive Concepts
Brian is a former military and law enforcement professional serving in many diverse capacities over the last 30 years. Brian has been the Assistant Chief of Police, SWAT operator, SWAT team leader, K-9 officer, and Patrol Supervisor. Brian has also worked as a private contractor with Blackwater Security Consulting for Hurricane Katrina relief and for Super Bowl 41 Security teams.

Lee Wallace is a military veteran with 14 Years of law enforcement experience.
He also has a degree in Criminal Justice. Certified by the NRA to teach Basic
Pistol and Home Invasion classes, he is also certified as a Range Safety Officer. In
addition, certification has been obtained by the state of Kansas to teach Kansas
Conceal Carry classes. As a Hunter Education Instructor for the past 35 years, he
has made gun ownership and safety a priority. He is a graduate of Front Sight
Firearms Training Institute.
